Kent sprinter Adam Gemili narrowly missed out on a place in Sunday night’s 100 metre final at the Olympics despite an heroic performance.
The 18 year old from Dartford ran a time of 10.06 seconds, his second fastest time, but narrowly missed out on a place for the final when he was squeezed into third place behind Jamaican Yohan Blake and American Tyson Gay.
Despite missing out on a place in the final that Usain Bolt went on to win, Gemili was looking to the future:
“I’ve been working really hard with my coach to get my start and help with my racing but it wasn’t really there,” he said.
“I am happy with the time but I think the start cost me a lot.”
“I was behind and I had to try and maintain my form and come back. I came third in the semi-final of the Olympics and that’s great. I am very pleased that I have come here and done what I need to do.”
Gemili only started training full-time in January and at just eighteen years old, he surely has a bright future and did Kent proud.
